    This afternoon we remembered those who have given their lives or have been injured whilst serving in the armed forces at Kempston's War Memorial after a Service at Kemspton East Methodist Church where a two-minute silence was observed and Standards presented.

    The latest weekly Coronavirus snapshot for Bedford Borough has been published.

    The figures show that in the seven days up to 31st October:

    • 8,066 PCR tests were taken
    • There were 697 Coronavirus cases (100 less than the previous week)
    • The weekly positive cases per 100,000 population was 399.0 (down from 456.2 in the previous week)

    There are three Transporting Bedford projects taking place in Bedford currently:

    • the improvements on Bedford High Street and St Paul's Square to take one lane of traffic out and create a better atmosphere for shoppers;
    • the Northern Gateway works to create more space and ease congestion;
    • the Ampthill Road works installing technology and increasing capacity to improve traffic flow.

    Prior to COP26, I wrote to the Prime Minister to express how important tackling the climate emergency was and how we needed joined-up government to achieve net zero. I have committed the council to be Net Carbon Zero by 2030 and we have already produced a Carbon Reduction Strategy detailing our future plans.

    There was a small gathering at Riverside Square this morning where a two-minute silence was observed and Standards presented.

  • Routes of Remembrance

    Thameslink has joined forces with The Veterans Charity on the nationwide 'Routes of Remembrance' campaign, which sees poppy wreaths touring the country's railway network to honour the fallen.

    With many memorial events cancelled last year due to Covid-19, the rail operator is helping to keep Remembrance moving this year with poppy wreaths travelling on a number of services across its network.
