November 30, 2017 11:38 AM

Mayor Dave Hodgson at the entrance to Allhallows Car ParkBedford town centre's shoppers and traders have been given a pre-Christmas boost, after Mayor Dave Hodgson and his Cabinet confirmed that all car park charges will be frozen for 2018, with the array of free parking options maintained.

Local residents and visitors to our town will continue to be able to park for free:

  • For up to two hours every Saturday in Council-owned town centre car parks
  • For up to two hours Monday-Saturday in Queen Street multi-storey car park
  • All day every Sunday in Council-owned town centre car parks
  • Every day after 6pm in Council-owned town centre car parks, with the exception of River Street multi-storey
  • On-street, after 6pm Monday to Saturday and all day on Sundays

Meanwhile, 24-hour opening at River Street and Lurke Street car parks continues, with Lurke St free from 6pm through to 6am.

Footfall in Bedford town centre has grown every year since the Free Parking Deal was introduced by Mayor Dave Hodgson in 2013, and figures show that the town is on course for a fourth straight year of footfall growth.

Commenting, Mayor Dave Hodgson said: "Our town centre is continuing to thrive and grow, but we are not complacent. We will keep supporting our town centre businesses and local shoppers. By freezing car park charges and continuing to offer a free parking option every single day in our town centre, we are making it clear that Bedford is open for business.'

"With free parking and the array of excellent shops and services on offer, there's every reason to visit and enjoy Bedford Town Centre at Christmas and throughout the year."
