November 12, 2018 9:12 PM

Mayor Dave Hodgson Alongside Members of the Riders Branch of the Royal British Legion at the Service of Dedication for the Memorial Bench on the Embankment, BedfordMayor Dave Hodgson has thanked all the groups and individuals who organised or took part in any of the vast array of Remembrance events and activities across Bedford Borough over the weekend. He said a particular thanks to the Bedford and District branch of the Royal British Legion, who 'did themselves and service members past and present proud' on a 'truly remarkable' weekend.

Commenting on his Facebook page alongside a slideshow of photos from events across the weekend, Mayor Dave wrote:

"People across Bedford Borough always pay fitting tribute to those members of the armed forces who lost their lives in service, but this weekend was truly remarkable for the way that people came together to commemorate the centenary of the end of the First World War and to say a hearfelt 'thank you' to the fallen.

I want to say a particular thanks to the Bedford and District branch of the Royal British Legion, who did themselves and service members past and present proud. Thanks also to parish councils, cubs and brownies groups, schools and all groups and individuals who organised or took part in any way in Remembrance activities around the Borough.

From the extraordinary turnout at the Remembrance service on the Embankment and those across the Borough, to the suspension bridge 'yarnbombers', to the volunteers braving awful overnight weather in maintaining the poignant 24 hour vigil, to the Festival of Remembrance at the Corn Exchange, to the Sunday evening beacon lightings and more, the deeply affecting acts of Remembrance across Bedford Borough showed how strongly the debt of gratitude to the fallen is felt by those of all ages.

We will remember them."
