Bedford has been selected as one of the initial 100 towns across England eligible to bid for the Towns Fund. The announcement means that Bedford Borough Council is invited to bid for a share of the overall £3.6bn fund.
With its strong commitment to continuing town centre regeneration Councillor Henry Vann, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesperson for Bedford and Kempston and Bedford Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Town Centres and Planning, has confirmed that the Council will be making a bid to the fund.
Commenting, Cllr Vann said "We welcome the news that Bedford is one of the 100 places eligible to access the Towns Fund, this clearly recognises the hard work already going on in Bedford, and we will be making a bid to the Fund. Bedford is in a strong position, with the town centre being one of Mayor Dave Hodgson's priorities. We are currently running a consultation on the future of the town centre, that has already had more than 1,600 responses."
Henry added "We will also be looking at asking the government to include Kempston in any future rounds of funding."
The consultation on the future of Bedford town centre continues until September 27th, and you can take part and have your say at https://forms.bedford.gov.uk/TCS/
